Our Story
Our story begins with our very own designer, Tan Kuruvilla’s impending wedding in 2011. Her excitement to go saree and trousseau shopping for her big day quickly dissipated when she shown a very limited variety of Christian bridal sarees and special occasion wear in stores – sarees that didn’t really meet her ‘bridal’ expectations. This inspired her to tap into her innate creativity and design her own bridal saree and wedding trousseau.
Much appreciated and widely complimented for her maiden designs, Tan knew instantly that this was her calling. She left behind a prospective career in engineering, finding her happy space in pursuing her creative abilities. What started as a need to fulfil her desire to ‘be the fairytale bride’, later became a passion with the launch of Kavani – The Wedding Saree Studio.
The label Kavani represents sarees designed by Tan Kuruvilla and her mother Laila Kuruvilla. This creative mother-daughter duo has draped many a beautiful bride with their custom-designed bridal sarees since 2012. Over the years, Kavani started designing exclusive bridal gowns as well, to meet the fairytale aspirations of modern-day brides.
Today, Kavani has a bridal saree and gown studio in Kottayam, Kerala, as well as one on Infantry Road, Bengaluru. Kavani’s collection of bespoke sarees and gowns for Christian brides has made it a go-to store for women looking to turn heads on their wedding day. The online portal has magnified visibility, catapulting the brand into a league of its own and consolidating its presence in the bridal wear domain.
Our Craftmanship
The brand Kavani is reflective of our commitment to honouring tradition, at the same time, elevating the traditional white and gold Kerala bridal saree to meet the expectations of new-generation brides. The same commitment is extended to bridal gowns, that have become very popular with the youth.
Kavani mixes culture, tradition, style and elegance, keeping in mind the significance of the wedding day. Lacy georgettes and sheer chiffons with delicate embroidery, gold Kancheevarams with exquisite cut-work, Benarasi saris with ornate beadwork or ari work, – whatever you see in your mind’s eye, Kavani can create for you. All the delicate needlework, embroidery and cut-work is executed and personally supervised at Tan’s unit in Bangalore.
With bridal gowns, the trick is to draw attention to the most flattering areas and minimise attention where it’s not needed. We advise you on what cut and style would be most flattering for you – be it the Empire style, A-line gown, Ballroom cut, Sheath style, Mermaid style – we can tailor the perfect bridal gown for you!
Kavani’s pride of place may go to bridal sarees and bridal gowns, but we also cater to the outfits required to other wedding-related function and requests from bridesmaids and relatives of the happy couple.
